The original Byzantine era Masterpiece, "Christ and the Virgin Enthroned with Forty Saints," was painted in the year 1328 as a miniature page on vellum inside of a Choir Book (Laudario).  The Artist is known as the Master of the Dominican Effigies.  This work of art  is at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. where it currently is not on view.
