Collection: The Voyage of Life: Old Age, 1842 COLLECTION

Experience the wonder of childhood with the Masterpiece titled "The Voyage of Life: Old Age,"  painted in the year 1842 by Thomas Cole.  It is part of a four-part series that traces the journey of an archetypal hero along the "River of Life."  All four of these works of art are presently on view at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

"It's a reflective work of art, showing an Old Man looking upward, while his guardian angel is greeting an angel in heaven; they are surrounded by glowing and billowing clouds.  Nearing the end of his life, the Old Man in the image seems ready to depart this earth so that he can go to his eternal rest in heaven."
