Collection: The Virgin of Guadalupe with the Four Apparitions, 1773 COLLECTION

This Masterpiece was painted by Nicolas Enriquez, of Mexican descent.  Three of the scenes show her apparition to Juan Diego at Tepeyac, near Mexico City.  The Forth scene shows the revelation of her image imprinted on his cloak.  There is an inscription at the base of the painting.

The compelling story of the Virgin of Guadalupe began on a hill in Tepeyac in Mexico in the year 1531, when Juan Diego saw her glowing on the hill.  She identified herself as the Mother of God, and the mother of all humanity.  She asked Juan Diego, an indigenous peasant, to build her a shrine on the spot where she appeared so that she could share her love and compassion with believers.

The Archbishop doubted, and asked for proof.

Returning to the hill, Our Lady told him to gather some flowers from the top of the hill to give to the Archbishop.  Knowing that it was wintertime, and there were not any blossoming flowers anywhere, Juan Diego went and discovered an abundance of beautiful flowers that were in full bloom; he had never seen this kind of flower prior.

Wrapping many flowers in his cloak, he presented them to the doubting Archbishop.  Unwrapping them, they spilled out.  They were recognized as Castilian roses, which were not found in Mexico.  It was at that moment that everyone noticed that Juan Diego's tilma (cloak) that had carried the flowers to the Archbishop, had been miraculously imprinted with a colorful image of the Virgin herself.

The actual tilma has been preserved, and the image has become known as "The Virgin of Guadalupe."  Over 20 million people visit the Basilica of our Lady of Guadalupe each year.  It was built on the same hill where she appeared to Juan Diego in 1531.

"Bring this beautiful image into your life and into your home today with my collection featuring this sacred image. Be inspired and inspire others."
