Collection: The Coronation of the Virgin, 1324 COLLECTION

This Masterpiece is titled The Coronation of the Virgin.  It was painted in the year 1324 by an artist that went by the title "Master of the Washington Coronation."  The original is presently on view at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  

The elaborate halos and the gold striations in the robes, the flat gold background, and the abstract manner colors and shapes are portrayed suggest a strong Byzantine influence, and also some Gothic influence.

Due to the trade between Venice and the East, ships carried silks, spices, ivory, and exotic pigments that were a hallmark of the paintings in this era with such brilliant color, like this one.

This gorgeous painting portrays Jesus Crowning His Mother, The Virgin Mary, with Angels looking on.
